BURDEN-BEARER

Have you ever heard someone say, “God will not put more on me than I can bear”?

Every time I hear someone utter this phrase, I cringe. It is a verse that has been misquoted for decades. Most people relate it to 1 Corinthians 10:13, but that is not what that passage says.

1 Corinthians 10:13 readsNo temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.”

That verse is talking about temptation, not burdens.

The truth is that God will often allow burdens into our lives that we can’t bear. Why? So He can be glorified. By allowing us to endure burdens, He teaches us to lean on Him and to trust Him. And He promises if we carry our burdens to Him, He will give us rest.

The next time you hear someone misquote that scripture, gently tell them the truth.

“GOD will not put more on me than HE can bear!”

Today, if you do not know God as your BURDEN-BEARER, run to Him. Lay your burdens at His feet and leave them there. He will give you rest.
