OUR HIGH PRIEST

One of my favorite Bible studies is Beth Moore’s A Woman’s Heart: God’s Dwelling Place. In the study, Beth leads students through an in-depth look into the tabernacle of God. She teaches on each article of the tabernacle and describes how they symbolize Jesus and point to Him as our High Priest. One of the most impactful portions of the study is understanding the duties and importance of the priests in the days of Moses and discovering how Jesus is now our High Priest.

What thoughts come to your mind when you envision Jesus as your High Priest?

For me, one of the most important things is that I no longer have to go through anyone to get to God. I can go straight to the source—Jesus. That’s not to say that I’ve never sought counsel from a pastor or been called by God to confess a wrong to another person, but my forgiveness of sin is not contingent on a human being. It is all about Jesus and the blood He shed for me.

One of the main duties of the High Priest in Moses’ day was to go into the Holy of Holies on the Day of Atonement and intercede on behalf of the Israelites before the Mercy Seat. According to God’s instructions in Exodus, the priest was only permitted to do this once a year. If he went behind the veil any other time, he would be struck dead.

Aren’t you thankful that you are allowed to go before God’s throne any time – day or night?

Aren’t you grateful that Jesus, as your High Priest, is always available?

This week as you praise Him as your High Priest, consider the myriad of ways He represents us before God.

Go before His Mercy Seat and confess your sins to Him.

Linger in the Holy of Holies and spend time with Him.

Allow Him to represent you before God as your High Priest..

Sunday Supplication

Jesus, my High Priest, thank You for allowing me to come into Your presence any time, day or night. This week give me a desire to spend more time with You and to bask in the light of Your presence. As I praise You as my High Priest, renew in me the awe of what it means to have You interceding for me. AMEN! SO BE IT!

Monday Manna

Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
Hebrews 4:14-16

Tuesday Treasure

Such a high priest truly meets our need—one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens. Unlike the other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself.
Hebrews 7:26-27

Wednesday Wisdom

We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.
Hebrews 6:19-20

Thursday Truth

But when Christ came as high priest of the good things that are now already here, he went through the greater and more perfect tabernacle that is not made with human hands, that is to say, is not a part of this creation. He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but he entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own blood, thus obtaining eternal redemption.
Hebrews 9:11-12

Friday Fact

Now the main point of what we are saying is this: We do have such a high priest, who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven, and who serves in the sanctuary, the true tabernacle set up by the Lord, not by a mere human being.
Hebrews 8:1-2
